Show your boss that you can take initiative by asking for an annual review.
Some companies are not as well organized as others, and you may find your anniversary date at your Philly job passing by without so much as a mention of your annual review. Do you know how to get a raise when this situation occurs? It's a move that requires tact, but you can negotiate a salary raise in situations like these—the key to handling a disorganized company is to be direct while keeping an open, friendly dialogue. Let your supervisor know you expect to get a review by putting the responsibility squarely in the company’s court, “When would you like to schedule my annual review?”
That approach shows your boss what you expect without making demands. It's also a reminder that a level of decorum is expected when it comes to employee relations. You can’t always judge a company by its slowness in this area—there may be several factors at work slowing down the wheels of progress. If you handle the situation without being confrontational, chances are good you’ll get a raise or at least know why the company isn’t able to see things your way at the present time. What you do with that information is up to you, but you won’t be left wondering what’s happening in your firm or your career.
