When looking over a list of jobs for retired people, don't forget about Philadelphia teaching and mentoring opportunities. In retirement you can offer your years of experience as a career coach or mentor. The first thing many people think of when considering tutoring or teaching is public school or college-level courses. These often require certification or additional training. If you’re willing to do that you have a clear path to a new career. But for those who aren’t ready to commit to yet another certification or training program, you can still use your teaching or mentoring skills in plenty of other ways.
Consider creating your own set of courses designed to teach or mentor people in the areas you hold expertise in. You could find a new career as a writer, creating “For Dummies” type books or a series of tutorial videos to sell online. If you aren’t the entrepreneurial type, you can still teach workshops or mentor people by signing on as staff at a local trade association or professional support group. There are many ways to take advantage of your skills post-retirement; a Philly job after retirement can include helping guide people to make the most of their potential.
