Stand Out Among Peers by Seeking Additional Training

Posted By: Staff Editor In: Furthering Your Education
Send a message of growth to the management team in your organiztion. Find out how at PhillyJobs.com.
Learning job skills isn’t the only challenge you have when setting yourself apart from your peers. You also need to show initiative and a willingness to do what it takes to get promoted. One way to do that is by volunteering for additional training or certification programs. Does your company offer schooling, extra training or optional college programs? Let your boss know you’re interested in attending. If the company doesn't offer a program yet, let your supervisor know you'd like to be considered for any future training or continuing education. Even if you don’t plan to stay at that particular company for the long haul, you’ll soon reap the benefits of being a team thinker.

There are plenty who choose to simply show up for work, do their jobs and go home. Those who demonstrate a greater desire by participating in training programs send a message to the management team. Make sure your boss understands your desire to grow with the company, get promoted and move up the company ladder. Even something as simple as volunteering for a company-sponsored first aid training program or charity drive can go a long way toward impressing those above you. Your Philly job may not depend on such things, but a promotion may hinge on how deeply invested the candidates seem to be in the firm.
