How to prepare for your post graduation job search.
Local job fairs and trade shows are two of those time-honored rites of passage in the search for entry level Philadelphia-based jobs. Any graduate looking for a first job should take advantage of these two networking opportunities as graduation nears. Don’t make the mistake of waiting until you have your diploma before you start attending those Philly fairs and shows. Instead, plan far in advance and start a pre-graduation networking campaign to get hired in a full time entry level position.
You should be attending trade shows and job fairs early—no later than the start of your final year of college. Make your presence known in the local community and don’t forget to print up business cards that have a link to an online portfolio or resume. While you may not feel your resume has much to offer, think again—any internships, honors, volunteer work and extra-curricular activities you did while in school could shed light on your abilities and skills. Good networking, whether it’s at a trade show or job fair, depends on how you present yourself and how quickly you can beat your competition—your fellow graduates—to the job market. Start early and learn the ropes and you could be first in line for an entry level marketing job.
